Waste Disposal
Last updated: 21 August 2026
Asbestos-containing waste requires controlled handling, containment, transportation and disposal. Ford Environmental Ltd aims to manage asbestos waste safely and in accordance with applicable UK waste requirements.
1. Asbestos Waste
Materials containing asbestos become asbestos waste when they are removed, discarded or otherwise designated for disposal.
This may include:
- Removed asbestos-containing materials
- Asbestos cement products
- Insulation board containing asbestos
- Contaminated disposable PPE
- Contaminated sheeting and cleaning materials
- Other waste contaminated with asbestos fibres
2. Asbestos Is Not General Waste
It requires appropriate management and disposal through suitable authorised routes.
3. Containment
Asbestos waste must be contained appropriately to minimise the risk of fibres being released during handling, transportation and disposal.
The containment method used will depend on the nature, size and condition of the waste and the applicable requirements.
4. Handling
Asbestos waste should be handled in a manner that minimises breakage, damage, dust generation and unnecessary disturbance.
Suitable PPE, RPE and working methods may be required depending on the circumstances.
5. Transportation
Transportation of asbestos waste is subject to applicable waste, carriage and hazardous-material requirements.
Where Ford Environmental Ltd arranges transportation, appropriate arrangements will be used for the waste concerned.
6. Disposal Facilities
Asbestos waste should be taken to a facility authorised to receive the relevant waste type.
It should not be deposited at an unauthorised site or abandoned.
7. Waste Documentation
Appropriate waste documentation will be used and retained where required by applicable legislation and the nature of the waste.
This provides an auditable record of the movement and disposal of controlled or hazardous waste where applicable.
8. Duty of Care
Businesses producing, carrying, keeping, treating or disposing of waste have legal responsibilities regarding how that waste is managed.
Ford Environmental Ltd aims to apply appropriate duty-of-care controls to waste generated through its activities.
9. Fly-Tipping and Unauthorised Disposal
Illegal disposal of asbestos waste can create serious risks to people and the environment.
Ford Environmental Ltd does not knowingly use unauthorised disposal routes.
10. Customer Waste
Customers should not attempt to break up, transport or dispose of suspected asbestos-containing materials without first understanding the applicable requirements.
If you have asbestos waste requiring removal or disposal, competent advice should be obtained.
11. Environmental Protection
Correct asbestos waste management helps prevent uncontrolled fibre release and contamination of vehicles, properties, land and the wider environment.
Further information about our approach is available in our Environmental Policy.
